What is the CMP Night Brace?

A part-time brace treatment alternative, suitable for moderate Adolescent Idiopathic curves. The CMP Night Brace is a significant postural over-correcting night-time brace. It allows for maximum over-correction of the spine.

Designed for recumbent wear only, it can be worn for both in bed and whilst laying on a sofa or bean bag in the evening before sleep.

Application of the Corrective Movement Principle in a recumbent, non-weight bearing position, aids maximum curve opening during this peak night-time growth, facilitating optimal growth modulation to assist curve progression

Who is the CMP Night Brace suitable for?

Children diagnosed with Idiopathic Scoliosis – Primarily indicated for single curves 20° – 40°, however, age and curve type will determine suitability in individual cases.

Maximum curve size indicated for bracing can vary significantly depending on curve flexibility and age, generally braces may be indicated for higher curve magnitudes in younger immature children with the greatest growth potential.

Brace Wear

The CMP Night Brace is worn for 10 – 12 hours/day.

Designed specifically for recumbent wear only, the CMP Night Brace may be used when relaxing at night and during sleep. Laying on a bed, sofa or beanbag while watching TV, reading or using a tablet/mobile phone should all be possible wearing the brace.

Treatment Objectives

Treatment objectives vary considerably according to age and condition. It is very important to distinguish between In-Brace Treatment Objectives and Outcomes, as the two can be very different.

Generally speaking, rigid braces for children can achieve an in-brace curve reduction of around 90 – 100%.

Treatment Outcomes

  • Provide some degree of curve correction. i.e. stable curve reduction in Cobb Angle 2+ years after brace treatment has ended.
  • Prevent curve progression
    • Stabilise the curve(s) at pre-treatment levels
  • Slow Progression
    • Avoid progression to a surgical level
    • Delay Surgery to an optimal age, allowing full growth potential.
    • Reduce the degree of surgical intervention, short fusion Vs long fusion, maintaining movement.
    • Avoid the need for multiple surgeries.
  • Provide Physical Support.
    • Prevent spinal collapse in Neuromuscular cases.

Early Onset Scoliosis: When used in the treatment of Infantile and Juvenile Idiopathic Scoliosis cases CMP Braces may reduce curves, prevent or reduce progression during juvenile years. On occasion, curves may continue to be well managed into adolescent years, delaying or preventing surgery.

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: For Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) cases CMP Braces may reduce curves, as well as potentially improve cosmetics; reducing rib prominence, levelling uneven shoulders, and balancing the waist shape.

Neuromuscular Scoliosis: This covers a wide range of conditions, featuring scoliosis as a result from muscle imbalance or weakness in both adults and children. In such cases CMP Braces may offer physical support as well as some degree of 3-D corrective action on the spine to prevent or slow curve progression and or to manage pain.
