CMP Lite & Lite-X Brace designs offer less aggressive correction than CMP Hypercorrective braces. This, in conjunction with soft edges and increased contact area, makes them ideally suited for neuromuscular, syndromic, and younger idiopathic scoliosis patients.
These brace designs are also indicated for the treatment of kyphoscoliosis and hyperkyphosis.
These soft/rigid hybrid designs follow the same corrective movement principles, however, offer variable degrees of postural over-correction according to specific patient flexibility and pressure tolerance.
The level of postural correction can range from significant overcorrection (similar to that of a hypercorrective brace) to neutral-balanced correction.
As standard both designs have a posterior opening and fully enclose the torso, extending anteriorly from the sternal notch down to the symphysis pubis and covering both trochanters. Trim lines can, however, be varied to specific patient requirements. An anterior opening may be specified where suitable to a specific patient’s needs.
Pressure relief areas are as standard provided by voids, however, windows may be specified at the time of manufacture or added at the time of fitting. Similarly, anterior abdominal windows may be added to aid abdominal breathing and/or to allow access to a feeding peg or stoma. In cases where feeding peg or stoma access is required a posterior opening is strongly advised.
For accurate sizing and positioning of anterior windows, it is most strongly advised that these are added at the brace fitting stage. We strongly advise against apertures being added during manufacture as the position on scan will change due to correction of the curve and therefore can not be relied upon. Cutting apertures/windows into the EVA material can easily be done when the brace is fitted.
There are advantages and limitations to both designs and the following table will help you determine which is best suited to the individual patient needs.
| Anterior Opening Option | Trim Adjustment | Plastic Frame Moulding | Addition of windows | Correction Adjustment | Heat Moulding | |
| CMP LITE BRACE | Yes | Limited 20-30mmmax | Not possible | Yes | Increase only with Pads | Adjustment limited to EVA edges only |
| CMP LITE X BRACE | Yes | Greatest adjustment both EVA & HDPE trimmable | Possible | Yes | Increase with Pads + increase / decrease by frame adjustment | EVA & HDPE Frame adjustments possible |

Windows, as opposed to void relief areas, may be specified at manufacture or added during fitting. Windows can make braces cooler, lighter in weight, and encourage greater corrective movement, however, do change proprioceptive feedback which can be either positive or negative depending on the patient’s condition. Significant large windows can weaken the brace and may not be helpful in NM scoliosis where there is significant collapse of the spine.
CMP Lite-X braces use removable glue dots to connect the rigid outer structural frame to the EVA liner allowing the two components to be easily separated for trimming. Additional glue dots are provided with each brace to allow re-attachment of the two brace components after adjustment.
As with all CMP braces, CMP Lite and Lite-X Braces are designed for the needs of each individual patient. Curve type and magnitude define the overall design of the brace, however the patient’s condition, curve stiffness and tolerance to pressure determine the Corrective Movement Position applied. As standard our clinical team will determine the most appropriate degree of correction applied to each brace. Any input from the treating clinician is always taken into consideration.
Indications
CMP Lite and Lite X Braces are suitable for a range of patient conditions and all ages. It is most frequently indicated for younger children with Neuro-muscular and Syndromic Scoliosis and Adult Degenerative Scoliosis. The brace is especially useful where pressure is not well tolerated in high and low tone conditions, the brace soft edges being much less likely to cut into the patient. Whilst suitable for curves of 25° upwards it is most frequently used in larger curves of 50°+
Treatment Outcomes
Provide curve correction:
- Stable curve reduction in Cobb Angle 2+ years after brace treatment has ended.
Prevent curve progression:
- Stabilise the curve(s) at pre-treatment levels.
Slow Progression:
- Avoid progression to a surgical level.
- Delay Surgery to an optimal age, allowing full growth potential.
- Reduce the degree of surgical intervention, short fusion vs long fusion, maintaining movement.
- Avoid the need for multiple surgeries.
- Provide physical support.
- Prevent spinal collapse in Neuromuscular cases.
Brace Wear
CMP Lite and Lite X Braces are typically prescribed for full time wear 20 hours per day, however the nature of the typical patient indicated for these braces may necessitate some compromise on standard wearing time for some patients.
